Nightpaw ---The morning air was crisp as normal during new-leaf. This was her first yet experiencing this season. The young she-cat closed her eyes tightly as the breeze racked at her slender frame. It was odd how somehow it smelt of dear Petalpaw, always reeking of moss and daisies. Her sibling could always be found in the elder den helping to apply daisy leaves to an aching elder's body. The rawness of the scent caused Nightpaw's eyes to snap open as if her sister would be sitting on the smaller stone below her as they had when kits but the stone was a empty as it had remained for moons. A pang of sadness struck her heart causing her cheek to slant downward as her lips dipped into a frown. Petalpaw would have become a fine cat, she was always so darn serious. It seemed unfair for her to have perished of sickness why not Nightpaw herself? She wasn't ambitious, wise, loving, or nearly as perfect as her sister but how she tried to honor her sister's memory by being all that she no longer could.
Emerald orbs fluttered off the stone as she attempted a half-smile as paw-steps neared the clan entrance. The morning patrol would be returning any moment now and she couldn't look like a forlorn kitten who had been denied milk. No she had to shine and look like she didn't hurt so deeply down below lest others would worry for her and tell her to stop pushing herself so hard. 'I can't stop now,' The words echoed from one edge of the she-cat's mind to the next. She wouldn't stop pushing no, not anytime soon. Stepping from the stone, Nightpaw was careful to round the edge of the clearing entrance so she would get the snoop on cats returning before they spied her. The ebony furred feline dipped her bodice low against the dirt as her paws crept her forward. She launched herself forward at the first cat to step through the clearing. 'Was the morning patrol exciting?' Her voice was rather loud as she raised herself out of her crouch and impatiently paced in front of the cat.
'Things are still quiet here, and my paws are aching to go hunt before all the lazy bones awaken. Anyone wanna come with, everything is better with more than one!' The she-cat explained with a toothy grin as she casually pawed at a wayward feather before her. The poor apprentice just couldn't bare to alone right now, not with this breeze and her thoughts.
